I'm sure a lot of other users feel the same way. So downloading them made me extremely uncomfortable. There is no real fundamental changes in Dungeon Keeper 2. Now that the original creator, Peter Molyneux, is gone, the imagination waterfall seems to be running dry which is a pity. I'm not saying the source or files are bad, I'm just saying I have no way to be sure of their legitimacy since they are not from an official store or anything like that. Guard rooms attract 'Dark Elves' and temples attract 'Dark Angels' (complete with odd 1st person V-shaped vision mode).

If GOG wants their customers to use specific mods, then they should provide links to those mods on the store page and call them highly recommended. This is the kind of bull crap that happens when they don't do that. GOG really needs to fix these bugs before they sell the DK2 game anymore.Īnd more generally, GOG needs to stop bundling end-user-made mods with any of the games they sell, and forcing the GOG customer to have only the modded version instead of the official developer-made version.

It would be like selling a Witcher game with a "new & improved" end-user made mod attached to it by default which causes some of the swords that should be in the game never to appear, and to be inaccessible to the player. With these bugs in place, GOG is selling an incomplete & broken version of DK2. They might complete the whole game and think that the elite units never spawned from their portals simply because they got unlucky with the creatures that happened to spawn for them. I can't believe it's been a known issue for at least 6 years and GOG still did nothing at all fix it!Ī lot of players might not even realize they have a bugged & incomplete version of the game. In my opinion most notably was KeeperFX, which is an attempt to remake DK 1 by reverse enginereing the original game.I've encountered these bugs too with the GOG version of DK2. Most if not all can still be found on-line, but are only half way finished. There are also many projects of coders and programmers on-line trying to make more games like Dungeon Keeper, but almost all of them eventually were abandoned. War of the Overworld plays mostly like DK 2, but I must admit I haven't played it much yet so I cant really be objective about that. However, Dungeon Keeper does include a full campaign, which is quite well done, has a sort of progressive storyline to it, and is quite long too. These two games were very clearly designed as a multiplayer LAN game, supporting 2 3 or 4 players. The grapics of this game are very dated, but who cares, they are still awsome! It is very difficult to explain what I mean with a dark athmosphere, you'll just have to play it to find out.

It is officially not part of the Dungeon Keeper series of course.ĭungeonk Keeper 1 and Deeper dungeons are fast paced, and have succesfully achieved a dark athmosphere. It is titled War for the Overworld, as a wink to the announced but never produced Dungeon Keeper III game. So far only one of them became a real game, this game. Some people decided to make their own game, based on Dungeon Keeper. Eventually, many years later, they sold the rights to some asian company who made a MMORPG or something out of it (it never got populair outside asia I think). They kept sitting on the offical rights to release any game under the title Dungeon Keeper, but never made another game. EA games pulled the lug on Dungeon Keeper, so they could focus their team on the making of Harry Potter games. It never got further than a few scetches to my knowledge. They then announced Dungeon Keeper III: war for the overwolrd, which was planned to be the first Dungeon Keeper game above the ground. Dungeon Keeper II which is a different game but is officially part of the Dungeon Keeper series, (made by the same producer, but it is definetly different). They were sold together as a bundle named Dungeon Keeper Gold edition. There is Dungeon Keeper 1 and Deeper dungeons which is more or less an extention pack on Dungeon Keeper 1. People who play minecraft tend to not know this history, and boast how Minecraft is the first game where you can dig around. The concept of the game Minecraft was based partially of Dungeon Keeper.
